Fine Dining Chef Channels His Cooking Chops To Feeding The Hungry

After 30 years at the Waldorf Astoria, where chef John Doherty oversaw a kitchen staff of more than 150 and cooked for kings, presidents and heads of state, he’s using his culinary expertise to feed hungry Americans. Doherty founded Heavenly HARVST, a nonprofit organization that provides nutrient-dense, preservative-free foods to those in need at no cost to them. This fall Heavenly HARVST completes its first round of mass production, and 250,000 pouches will go to Feed the Children for distribution.

“I have spent many years setting up the infrastructure and distribution plan for Heavenly Harvest, developing meals with hearty nutritional value and shelf-stable attributes, and working with production to make this dream a reality,” said Doherty, who founded the nonprofit in 2015.
